Inaugural Post to my PKM Weekly Substack
Combining the latest news, updates and tips and tricks from the world of Personal Knowledge Management
Hello, and welcome to the inaugural PKM weekly posts. PKM Weekly combines the latest news, updates, and tips and tricks from the world of Personal Knowledge Management.
I was previously writing a couple of newsletters specific to a couple of PKM apps, but it was taking up a lot of time, and more importantly, I am sure we are all interested in more than just a couple of apps. There will be info that I miss out on / apps I do not use, so I am not in the know so please do feel free to share any comments / posts you would like included.
I am still playing around with the layout and set-up of the posts, so bear with me while I try and find the most efficient way of writing and presenting the information for you.
Anyway, that’s enough about me; now it's time to get to the good stuff.
TANA
Some changes coming to Tana including payment: "We are at the cusp of launching our paid beta, which includes building an easier self-service experience where we focus on giving users the best start possible." This was published in an email from the Tana Team a couple of days ago as part of an Update to the T&Cs.
I think it is fair for an app to charge users, but in Tana’s case I hope that the devs will introduce a few fundamental features before implementing pricing. The key missing features for me are:
Fully fledged mobile app (Android and iOS)
Export (for backup and using in other apps)
Offline mode / offline capability
Better codeblocks
Roadmap of high-level future plans.
Full details, available here.
Some QOL improvements to make any moves a lot easier:
Your Tana has a slick new interface for moving and finding!
You can now adjust playback speed for media 🎶⏩
There are a number of improvements to your Tana UI that you may have noticed in the last few weeks!
Check out this great Tweet from the team explaining all three.
Fis Fraga gives us some great tips on how to improve our prompts (in Tana, although this can be in any app with AI)
Give Direction: Describe the desired style in detail, or reference a relevant persona.
Specify Format: Define what rules to follow, and the required structure of the
response.
Provide Examples: Insert a diverse set of test cases where the task was done
correctly.
Evaluate Quality: Identify errors and rate responses, testing what drives performance.
Divide Labor: Split tasks into multiple steps, chained together for complex goals.
Be on the lookout for new content from the new Ambassadors:
Sarah - Trader by day and very skilled in both AI and PKM
Monica - COO of Forte Labs (Building a Second Brain) and produces excellent Tana content as a law student.
LOGSEQ
While the Devs are working hard on the new Database DB version, Logseq 0.10.9 was released earlier in the week. This latest update included:
Fix missing refs for property text values when creating a page
Fix incorrect behaviour of the delete key for deleting the last char
Fix missing default colours for highlight mark tag
New block placeholder should accept tab and enter key
Restore the App window at the current workspace
I18n: Italian, Slovak
Linux ARM64 build support
Do you agree with this post / comment concerning the Logseq Devs and their approach to the app?
The Logseq team is a terrible steward of Logseq
Personally, I think it is a bit harsh. I am sure the devs are doing absolutely everything they can, but I will make one comment: the official Logseq communication is non-existent. Although the app is free, there are plans to introduce Logseq Pro - if you want to start charging users money, you need to communicate a lot better.
It is starting to feel a little like nobody is home.
ANYTYPE
Following years of R&D, the AnyType Team was delighted to introduce Anytype: Multiplayer. With this release, you're free to share what matters with those you care about, knowing that everything you share is encrypted and owned by you. Nobody, not Anytype nor any other force in the world, can see what you've shared or deny your access.
This release also introduced membership pricing:
For a 1-year Builder Plan at $79, use code: BetaBuilderPreOrder2024
For a 3-year Co-Creator Plan at $239, use code: BetaCoCreatorPreOrder2024
For a 2-year Builder Plan at $99 (see Tweet for discount link).
Great work all round.
Want to see what else Anytype has in store for us? Check out the roadmap here:
CAPACITIES
The Capacities team recently announced that they are on a mission to improve offline support for Capacities over the next months.
You can already work offline with Capacities. Your changes will be synchronized as soon as you're back online. Nevertheless, if content is not loaded, you won't be able to access it at the moment. Also, some features and pages are not available.
To overcome these offline limitations, the devs have established a roadmap for Offline Support, which can be found here.
Following on from Anna's class notes series, PKM Beth did a video that walks you through some of Anna's ideas so you can follow along!
How to set up the project object type
How to set up a class notes template
Why indenting is so important for reviewing your notes.
Check it out here!
That’s all for this week, folks. Thank you very much in advance for reading and I look forward to bringing you more PKM news next week.
